Multiprocessing linear algebra algorithms on the CRAY X-MP-2: Experiences with small granularity
“Multiprocessor” is a term that has been used for years. Our definition follows those of [8], [9], and [lo]. The CRAY X-MP is a follow-up to the CRAY-1S system offered by CRAY Research, Inc. The CRAY X-MP family is a general-purpose multiprocessor systeln. It inherits the basic vector functions of CRAY-lS, with major architectural improvements for each individual processor. The interprocessor c...
متن کاملTask granularity studies on a many-processor CRAY X-MP
A hybrid granularity model is proposed for general concurrent solution. It is applied to the triangular factorization of a dense matrix ranging in size from 4 to 1024. Concurrency is achieved at two levels: (!) with small (micro) task granularity and (2) with large (blocked) task granularity. Rdevano~ to a many-proccssax CRAY X-MP is demonstrated by simulation.
متن کاملComparisons of Gaussian Elimination Algorithms on a Cray Y-MP
The results of various implementations of Gaussian elimination on full matrices on a single processor Cray Y-MP are presented and discussed. It is shown that when the manufacturer supplied BLAS kernels are used, the difference between the best versions of level 2 BLAS and level 3 BLAS (blocked) implementations is almost negligible. It is suggested that to improve the performance of blocked Gaus...
متن کاملOptimizing INTBIS on the CRAY Y-MP
[NTBIS is a well-tested software package which uses an interval Newton/generalized bisection method to find all numerical solutions to nonlinear systems of equations. Since INTBIS uses interval computations, its results are guaranteed to cnntain all solutions. To efficiently solve very, large nonlinear systems on a parallel vector computer, it is necessary to effectively utilize the architectur...
متن کاملExperiments with Program unification on the Cray Y-MP
Program Unification is a technique for source-to-source transformation of code for enhanced execution performance on vector and SIMD architectures. This work focuses on simple examples of program unification and attempts to demonstrates that program unification has promise as a practical technique for improved program performance. Using simple examples to explain how unification can be done, we...
